Unemployment Rates Improve For Local Area In March, But Remain Above 2022 Numbers

March-2023-Unemployment-Numbers

Unemployment figures improved across the seven-county region in March, but most of the area held at rates above where they were a year ago. According to data released last week by Iowa Workforce Development (IWD), Greene County led the way locally with a 2.0 percent unemployment rate, unchanged from February’s figures and the same as 2022’s numbers. Carroll and Audubon Counties recorded unemployment at 2.4 percent, a 0.2-point improvement from the previous month for both counties. Calhoun County was unchanged from its February rate of 2.6 percent. Sac County recorded a 0.2-point decrease to 2.8 percent, Guthrie County dropped 0.2 points to 3.5 percent, and Crawford County improved by 0.3 points to 5.5 percent. While rates improved from February to March, the data shows unemployment in the seven-county region is 0.2 points higher than in March 2022. IWD reports the state’s unemployment rate in March was 2.8 percent, well below the national rate of 3.5 percent. For more county-by-county figures, follow the link included below.
