Last week, South Central Calhoun (SCC) students traveled to Texas to compete in an academic decathlon against teams nationwide. The event was held in Frisco, Texas, and SCC sent 11 students; eight participated, while the other three served as alternates. Students competed in 10 different events and scored a total of 27,147.2 points which ranked them 22 out of 28 teams. Marleta Smith, the SCC teacher who coaches the decathlon team, says students were able to develop different skill sets that will last them a lifetime.
