Carroll City Officials Take Another Step Forward On Adams Street Reconstruction Project At Monday’s Meeting

Carroll city officials will take another step forward on the Adams Street reconstruction project at their meeting on Monday. The city council convenes at 5:15 p.m. at Carroll City Hall. City Manager Aaron Kooiker says progress on getting the estimated $3.6 million project out to bid has been slowed due to the legal requirements the city needs to meet before construction can begin.

The current project schedule shows an anticipated bid award date on June 12 with the construction of the first section, which falls between 10th and 13th Streets, finishing its first stage before school starts in August. The second section from Highway 30 to 10th Street is tentatively scheduled for first-stage completion in November. The selected contractor will need to return in late spring or early summer of 2024 to finish stage two work. Prior to the Adams Street discussion, the council will review the proposed Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 health insurance renewal from Wellmark. Kooiker says he and the staff were pleasantly surprised to see a zero-percent increase in the city’s anticipated costs.

Monday’s consent agenda includes the approval of a tobacco permit for Antonia’s Vapes on W. 5th Street, a $15,486 bid award to Janning & Sons for floor replacement at the Carroll Fire Station, and a bid opening for two new mowers for the Parks and Recreation Department. The council will also review the FY22 audit of the city’s finances by Feldmann & Company CPAs, P.C., and consider proposed street closures for RAGBRAI and an Aug. 9 Chamber Night Shift. Monday’s meeting is open to the public and will also be live-streamed via the city’s YouTube channel. Details on how to attend remotely and the full agenda are included below.
