Two Injured In Saturday Morning Crash Near Elk Horn

Two drivers were seriously injured following a head-on collision Saturday just north of Elk Horn. According to the Iowa State Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 2:24 a.m. on Highway 173 near the intersection with Bluebird Place. Authorities say a 1999 Chevrolet C2500, operated by 48-year-old Jesse Lee Archibald of Elk Horn, was traveling southbound on the highway and crossed the centerline into the path of a northbound 2011 Ford Fusion, driven by 22-year-old Gracee Dora Rose Deakins of Kimballton. Both drivers were transported to Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan by Shelby County Emergency Medical Services. The Shelby and Audubon County Sheriff’s Offices also assisted at the scene. Saturday’s crash remains under investigation.
