Audubon city officials have set a public hearing to help with the community’s housing shortage. The hearing is scheduled for the council’s May 22 meeting and involves transferring property ownership along Broadway Street in Audubon. According to City Administrator Joseph Foran, ownership of the property will be transferred to Region XII Council of Governments to be a part of their 2023 Workforce Housing Tax Credit Application. Foran says a new home will be built on the property if Region XII gets the grant funding.

Within the last year, the City of Audubon has changed the minimum zoning qualifications for individuals to build new homes in the community. The zoning changed the minimum length of a property from 60 feet wide to 50. Foran adds the city is also looking at other avenues to try and fix the housing shortage.

Foran says with the zoning changes and new housing projects going on, more individuals will be attracted to Audubon. Again the public hearing is scheduled for the council’s Monday, May 22 meeting and is open to the public.
