The Carroll County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously during their meeting yesterday (Monday) to approve a $32,681 change order for the ongoing $4.5 million courthouse renovation project. The change order includes rerouting interior cabling and installing additional security cameras and cell signal repeaters throughout the building. District 3 Supervisor Gene Meiners says the added expense is within reason, especially when you see how some of the older areas of the courthouse are wired.
This is the project’s second change order. The first was approved in March at a total cost of $94,828 for reinstalling ceiling tile that had to be removed earlier in the construction phase. District 2 Supervisor Mike Andersen questioned how much of the project’s contingency remains following Change Order #2. District 1 Supervisor Scott Johnson replied.
Following this change order’s approval, $324,781 remains in the contingency fund, or about 70 percent. In a separate but related resolution, the board also approved a nearly $44,000 proposal from REW Services in Des Moines for asbestos abatement on the building’s court level. Construction is expected to transition to the upper level in the coming weeks, which will require judicial services to transfer to the courthouse basement temporarily.
