Lake City Officials Are Spreading Awareness On Lawn Maintenance During The Summer

Now that most Iowans have had their lawnmowers running at least a handful of times, city officials from throughout the region are reminding residents to keep up with lawn maintenance. Most communities in the state of Iowa have ordinances detailing how long property owners’ grass can grow before it needs to be cut. Lake City Administrator Jacob Matthews describes what their community’s ordinance says.

Matthews says the city does charge property owners to mow their yards.

He says if community members know someone unable to manage their property due to health issues or finances, do the neighborly thing and help them. Matthews adds if property owners keep their yards clean, it spreads vibrancy throughout the community.

At last week’s council meeting, Lake City officials approved Saturday, July 22, as the city-wide clean-up date. Matthews says that the public works building will be rolling out dumpsters for individuals to discard unwanted items. Residents with questions about property management or the clean-up date can contact city hall at 712-640-6401.
