The next phase of Glidden’s Liberty Rock Plaza is set to start soon, with city officials approving a $26,682 cost estimate at Monday’s council meeting. In the summer of 2021, the city, with support from the community, moved a massive boulder into Northland Park just off Highway 30. The Liberty Rock was painted by well-known Freedom Rock artists Ray “Bubba” Sorenson, highlighting Glidden’s ties to military service and the community’s history. At yesterday’s (Monday) city council meeting, officials approved Kirsch Custom Builders Liberty Rock Plaza improvements estimate. City Administrator Brooke Peterson says this plaza project is slightly different from any other project.
Peterson details what will be completed during this phase of the project.
Peterson says this phase will round out the project and make it look more complete; however, additional improvements are planned. City officials intend to add benches in the plaza rock and potentially a gazebo. Peterson adds most of the project has been paid for with donations. At this time, city officials are still determining when this phase will start but hope to have it completed before riders make their way to Glidden for RAGBRAI. Individuals or businesses interested in donating can contact city hall at 712-659-3010.
