April unemployment rates across the region were down by nearly three-quarters of a point on average from March, according to data released this (Tuesday) morning by Iowa Workforce Development (IWD). Greene County recorded the lowest rate in the area for April at 1.7 percent, 0.3 points lower than the prior month and a year ago. Sac County followed closely behind at 1.8 percent, a whole point lower than in March and 1.1 points below last year. Audubon County recorded a 1.9 percent rate, a half-point improved from March, while Carroll County came in at 2.0 percent, 0.4 points lower than last month and even with rates from last year. Calhoun County and Guthrie County recorded rates of 2.1 and 2.4 percent, respectively. Crawford County again saw the highest unemployment in the region with 4.4 percent, 1.1 points improved from March’s figures. On average, regional unemployment was 2.3 percent for April, 0.7 points lower than the prior month and a half-point improved from last year. Iowa’s unemployment rate fell to 2.7 percent in April, and the U.S. rate dropped to 3.4 percent. The full IWD dataset is included below.
