Following last year’s success of the Carroll Historic Preservation Commission’s local character walk, the group will once again bring history to life at the Carroll City Cemetery this Memorial Day. Commission President, Vicki Gach, says six of the characters from 2022’s program are returning with 10 new prominent figures making an appearance.
Memorial Day’s primary focus is on honoring our nation’s veterans, and Carroll’s cemetery has veterans from nearly every U.S. conflict since the Civil War. Ward 4 Councilwoman and commission liaison Carolynn Siemann says it is well worth knowing the community’s rich history.
Siemann and Gach say they have a wonderful group of volunteers who have learned the history and mannerisms of their assigned characters.
The character walk is set to begin around 11 a.m. Monday morning, following the Carroll American Legion’s Memorial Day services at the Carroll City Cemetery, and volunteers will be handing out maps detailing where the characters can be found and some details about their lives. The program is expected to wrap up around 1 p.m. Monday afternoon.
