Duane Joseph Ziegmann, the son of Joseph and Matilda (Godbersen) Ziegmann, was born on December 25, 1946, in Carroll, Iowa. He grew up on a farm east of Odebolt, Iowa and received his education from Odebolt-Arthur High School graduating with the class of 1966. After high school Duane enlisted in the Army National Guard and proudly served his country until his honorable discharge in 1972.

Duane then returned to Odebolt and began his lifelong career in farming. He worked as a hired farm hand over the years as well as farmed on his own. One of his greatest joys was during harvest when he got to drive the grain cart. In his younger years Duane also worked for a while at the Standard Gas Station in Odebolt.

A love for sports eventually enticed Duane to become a referee. For many years he enjoyed refereeing football and baseball games. When he wasn’t working as a referee or umpire, Duane could be found watching sports on television or enjoying the simple life on his farm.

Left to cherish his memory include his brothers Kermit Ziegmann and Robert (Kristin) Ziegmann both of Wall Lake, IA; nephew Joel Ziegmann of Odebolt, IA; niece Jennifer (Frederick) Olson of Vail, IA; great-nieces Rianne Anderson, Sadie Olson, and Kenasyn Ziegmann; and great-nephews Reece and Ryler Ziegmann.

He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Matilda Ziegmann; and nephew Jon Ziegmann.
