Donald Drees, 94 of Carroll, died Friday, June 9, 2023, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Monday, June 12, 2023, at St. Lawrence Church – St. John Paul II Parish in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Schott. Music will be by Kathy Halbur and Sherry Loughran. Lector for the Funeral Mass will be Andra Reason. Gift Bearers will be Jessi Drake, Heidi Curtis, and Anna Nees. Eucharistic Minister will be Jane Boes. Casket Bearers will be Greg Drees, Nathan Mohr, Scott Drees, Kurt Drees, Charlie Drees, and Trevor Thielen. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll with military honors conducted by the Carroll American Legion.
Visitation will be on Sunday at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll from 3-6 p.m. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 6 p.m. Additional visitation will be from 9-9:45 a.m. on Monday at the church.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be left for the Donald Drees family for a later designation.

Born on October 18, 1928, in Carroll, Iowa, Donald Theodore Drees was the son of Louis and Theresa (Eischeid) Drees. Don graduated from Carroll High School in 1946. He served in the United States Army from 1951-1952 during the Korean Conflict; following his honorable discharge Don returned to Carroll. On March 1, 1954, he was united in marriage to Jane Ortner at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Mt. Carmel. The couple made their home in Carroll where Don began working for his father and later owned and operated Drees Oil Company which continues to be operated by his children.
Don enjoyed dancing, playing cards, working, and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, Carroll American Legion, and St. John Paul II Parish.
Survivors include his wife Jane Drees of Carroll; his children: Vickie Drees of Carroll, Bob (Myrna) Drees of Carroll, Tom (Donna) Drees of Scranton, Joe (Laura) Drees of Amarillo, TX, Gayle (Rex) Mitchell of Prole, Jim (Deanne) Drees of Carroll, Jill (Mike) Thielen of Johnston, and Dave Drees of Carroll; his son-in-law, Bob Mohr of Lake View; 23 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; his sisters-in-law: Marilyn Ortner, Sylvia Onken, and Leota Borkowski; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Joyce Mohr; his parents-in-law, Joseph and Elizabeth Ortner; his siblings: Louis Jr. (Freda) Drees, Maxine (Dr. R.W. “Dick”) Collison, Howard (Patricia) Drees, LaVonne (Daryl) Darges, Dorothy Drees, and Douglas Drees; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Justin Ortner, William Onken, Marilyn (Lowell) Wuebker, Clarise (Wilbur) Pudenz and Melvin Borkowski.
