On Monday, June 12, 2023 J. Robert “Bob” Kloser, loving husband and father of seven children, passed away peacefully at the age of 102 at Swan Place Assisted Living in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 6, 2023 at 10:30 A.M. at St. John Paul II Parish – St. Lawrence Church in Carroll with Fr. Kevin Richter as Celebrant. Lector will be Greg Dietz. Eucharistic Minister will be Mary Dietz. Gift bearers will be the Jack Frank family. Pallbearers will be Kathy and Joe Stein, Phil and Nancy Kloser, Mark Kloser, Rick Kloser, and Joe and Jake Kloser. Military Honors by the Carroll American Legion. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.
Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5 P.M. on Wednesday where there will be a Christian Wake Service and rosary by Fr. Timothy Schott at 7:00. Additional visitation will be held at St. Lawrence Church from 9:30 A.M. – 10:15 A.M. on Thursday. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to The Gentiva Foundation or the Alzheimer’s Association and may be left at the funeral home or the church.
Bob was born in Missouri Valley, Iowa on February 11, 1921, the only child of Frank and Genevieve Kloser. The family moved to Carroll in 1930, which remained their residence thereafter.
Bob enlisted in the Army Air Force shortly after the Pearl Harbor bombing and was stationed in England for the entirety of his service. Upon return to Carroll, he joined his father in the operation of Kloser Seed Store, which remained in business until Bob’s retirement in 1987.
Bob married Mary Ellen Wells on September 21, 1950 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Carroll. Together they raised seven children. Bob was active in the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, Elks, and the Kuemper Parents Club. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and golfing and was an avid Iowa State Cyclone fan.
Mr. Kloser was preceded in death by his wife Mary; his parents, Frank and Genevieve Kloser; his mother- and father-in-law Elizabeth and Fred Wells; sister-in-law Evelyn Wille; and brothers-in-law Francis “Bud” Wells and Bernie Wells.
He is survived by his children: daughters Kathleen Stein (Joe) of Omaha, NE, Mary Dietz (Greg) of Fairview, TX, and Rae Ann Frank (Jack) of Milton, GA; sons Phillip Kloser (Nancy) of Glenwood, IA, Mark Kloser of Muscatine, IA, Richard Kloser of Joliet, IL, and Joseph Kloser (Tammy) of Peoria, AZ; grandchildren Joshua and Jacob Kloser, Jack and Genevieve Frank, and Tiera Ciaccio (Michael); and great-grandchild Zoey Ciaccio.
