Calhoun County Man Arrested For April 2022 Shooting In Pomeroy Convicted On Involuntary Manslaughter Charge

A Calhoun County man accused of shooting and killing his brother in Pomeroy 14 months ago is awaiting sentencing following his conviction on lesser charges in Calhoun County District Court. Sixty-seven-year-old Michael Kenneth Hinners was initially charged with first-degree murder, a class A felony, after the April 9, 2022 shooting at a home in the 200 block of S. Ontario Street. His brother, 59-year-old Anthony Hinners, died due to injuries sustained from a gunshot wound to the chest. Prosecutors could not prove the shooting was an intentional homicide during a May bench trial, and the judge issued a verdict on June 15, finding Hinners guilty of involuntary manslaughter. Hinners, who had been held at the Carroll County jail since the shooting, was released after posting a $15,000 cash-only bond. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for July 21 at the Calhoun County Courthouse.
