U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack announced yesterday (Monday) a Carroll-based fuel company, Kimmes Enterprises LLC, was selected for a more than $500,000 grant to increase the availability of homegrown biofuels at their locations. Kimmes Enterprises will receive $510,500 through the Higher Blends Infrastructure Incentive Program in the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act, which they will use to replace four E15 dispensers and four ethanol storage tanks at their fueling stations in Carroll, Rockwell City, and Baxter. Once completed, Kimmes Enterprises anticipates the project will increase annual ethanol sales by approximately 635,000 gallons. Vilsack says, “President Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act is a historic investment that will expand clean energy, lower costs for Americans, and build an economy that benefits working families and small businesses. By expanding the availability of homegrown biofuels, we are strengthening our energy independence, creating new market opportunities and revenue streams for American producers, and bringing good-paying jobs and other economic benefits to rural and farm communities.” An additional $1.6 million was awarded to Minnesota and New York fuel companies as part of a $500 million investment into homegrown biofuels.
