One Person Killed, Two Injured In Hwy 30 Crash Monday Night East Of Scranton

One person was killed, and two were injured following a multi-vehicle crash east of Scranton Monday evening. According to the Iowa State Patrol, the collision occurred at approximately 5:34 p.m. near the intersection of U.S. Highway 30 and Forest Avenue in Greene County. The initial investigation shows three vehicles, a 2018 Ford Explorer driven by 63-year-old Becky Jo Wolf of Scranton, a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox driven by 88-year-old Donald Clayton Haberl of Carroll, and a 2007 Ford Focus operated by 17-year-old Harley Marie Smith of Jefferson, were stopped on the highway due to road construction. Authorities say a 2003 Toyota Prius, driven by 30-year-old Amy Marie Yager of Coon Rapids failed to slow for the stopped traffic and collided with the rear of the Haberl vehicle, causing a chain reaction. The Haberl Chevrolet collided with the Smith Ford, and the Smith Ford then collided with the Wolf SUV. A passenger in the Haberl vehicle, 84-year-old Mary Ann Haberl of Carroll, died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. Yager and Donald Haberl also reported injuries and were transported to Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson by Greene County Emergency Medical Services for treatment. The Greene County Sheriff’s Office also assisted at the scene. An investigation into the Monday evening crash is ongoing.
