2023 Carroll County Relay For Life Brings Festival Feel To Friday’s Program

Tomorrow (Friday) is the big day for the Relay for Life of Carroll County, and this year’s festivities will have a bit of a different feel from previous relays. The program is typically hosted at the Carroll Athletic Field, but Relay Co-Chairs Cody and Erin Forch say they decided a change of venue to Graham Park was appropriate, especially considering the challenges the Relay faced the last several years.

The Forches, along with their partner chair couple, Darin and Brenda Putney, realized one of the most often cited reasons for families not coming out to join the Relay was its length. In response, they’ve shortened the program significantly, beginning with a more family-centric focus starting at 5 p.m.

They’ll also have several food trucks stationed in Graham Park until 8 p.m. for families to grab dinner, and a portion of their proceeds will go back to the Carroll County Relay for Life. While the kids’ activities will close around 7 p.m., Forch says it will be worth hanging around, as that is when Brad Morgan will take the stage.

With the Relay taking on a more relaxed pace, participants are encouraged to bring their tailgate tents, blankets, and coolers to the park, as it is a BYOB-style event. Organizers have set a fundraising goal of $100,000 and are nearly halfway to that mark. The day of the Relay is usually their single biggest fundraising day, and Forch says there is still time to contribute to the cause.
