Peggy Jansen of Glidden

Peggy Joyce Janssen, age 79, of Glidden, Iowa, passed away on Friday, June 30, 2023 at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden with Chaplain Rick Hamilton officiating. Casket bearers will be Tony Janssen, Tim Janssen, Teresa Janssen, Duane Owen, John Lohmann, and Haven Mueggenberg. Honorary casket bearers will be Austin Janssen, Kaylee Dreessen, Alicen Dreessen, and Brenda Janssen. Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden.

Visitation will be held from 12:30 P.M. – 1:45 P.M. on Wednesday prior to the service at the funeral home in Glidden.

Peggy was born on November 21, 1943 in Jefferson, IA, and was the daughter of Dorothy (Compton) Heuton. She attended the Carroll Community School graduating with the High School Class of 1962. After graduation she worked various jobs throughout the Carroll area.

On January 18, 1964 she was united in marriage to Virgil Janssen at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll. To this union three daughters, Kris, Michelle and Jane were born. They made their home in Glidden and Peggy worked at several area restaurants as a cook until she retired. She cherished her time with her grandchildren and visiting Rei Rei.

Peggy was a former member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Glidden. In her spare time, you could often find her working on jigsaw puzzles, playing Bingo, cribbage or cards with Rummy and Five Crowns being a few of her favorites. She also enjoyed going to the casino to try her luck on the slot machines. Peggy had the biggest heart and loved the time she got to spend with Virgil. She always looked forward to their family gatherings for a competitive game of croquet in the backyard. Peggy was also well known for her famous homemade potato salad.

Peggy is survived by her husband Virgil Janssen of Glidden; daughters: Kris (Dan) Dreessen of Glidden, Michelle (Daniel) Scheerer of Garner, NC, and Jane Janssen of Lake City; grandchildren: Austin (Brenda) Janssen of Arcadia, Kaylee Dreessen and Alicen Dreessen both of Glidden; sisters: Janet Sondegroth and Cheryl Conroy both of Carroll; brothers-in -law and sisters-in-law: Mary Ann Compton of Coon Rapids, Richard (Masae) Janssen of Hubert, NC, LeRoy (Marion) Janssen of Glidden, Ruby Reinhart of Scranton, Leona (Kenny) Owen of Glidden and Barb Janssen of Dedham; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Peggy was preceded in death by her mother Dorothy Heuton; parents-in-laws: Gerhard and Lillian Janssen; brother Bill Compton; sister Helen Greene; and brothers-in-law: Robert Janssen, John Toms, Keith Reinhart and Gene Greene.
