Melva Haubrich, 88 of Carroll, died Monday, July 3, 2023, at Westhaven Nursing Home in Boone.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 8, 2023, at Holy Spirit Church – St. John Paul II Parish in Carroll.  The Celebrant will be Fr. Terry Roder.  Music will be by Kathy Halbur.  Lectors for the Funeral Mass will be Jennifer Linderblood and Curtis Duncan.  Gift Bearers will be Melva’s granddaughters.  Casket Bearers will be Chris Linderblood, Matt Steffensmeier, Joshua DeVries, Curtis Duncan, Nick DeVries, and Eric Tani.  Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Friday at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll with a rosary at 7 p.m.  Additional visitation will be from 9-9:45 a.m. on Saturday at the church.

Born on October 3, 1934, in Carroll, Iowa, Melva was the daughter of William and Josephine (Sturm) Anthofer.  On October 5, 1954, Melva was united in marriage to William Haubrich at St. Peter and Paul Church in Carroll with Msgr. Frank Greteman officiating.  The couple farmed and raised seed corn for the Garst and Thomas Seed Company in Carroll and Audubon counties until 1995 when they moved to their home in Carroll.

A devoted homemaker and housewife, Melva loved crocheting afghan blankets for her family, gardening and tending to her flowers.  While living in Carroll, she also worked part-time at Kuemper in the kitchen.  Melva was an avid Cubs fan, enjoyed bowling, reading, and collecting Beanie Babies.  Her greatest love was her family.

Melva will be forever remembered by her daughters: Joni (Rod) DeVries of Ankeny, Pat (Bobby) Cryder of Boone, Gail (Mike) Linderblood of Boone, Peggy (Don) Duncan of Boone, and Julie (Ron) Tani of Manhattan Beach, CA; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; her sisters: Judy Burk, Suzanne (Tom) Rutten, and Dianne (Gene) Halbur; her sisters-in-law: Irene Ankenbauer, Marge Schultes, Donna Grim, and Charlotte Haubrich; her brother-in-law, Ron Irlbeck; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.

Melva was preceded in death by her parents; her husband William; her son, Russell Haubrich; her sister, Shirley Strom; and her niece, Lisa Burk.
