Marie Steinkamp of Lake View

Marie (Broich) Steinkamp, age 82, of Lake View passed away at her home on Black Hawk Lake in Lake View on Thursday, July 13, 2023.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 21, 2023 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wall Lake.  The Celebrant will be Fr. Joe Dillinger assisted by Deacon Butch Stone.  Mass Servers will be Kevin, Levi and Luke Steinkamp.  Music will be by Julie Steinkamp, Maggie Steinkamp, and Laura Steinkamp.  Lector will be John Smith.  Gift Bearers will be Mary Thompson Darr and Cora Steinkamp.  Casket Bearers will be Marie’s grandchildren.  Burial will be in the Wall Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday at St. Joseph’s Church in Wall Lake.  A Rosary will be prayed at 4:45 p.m. with a Christian Wake Service held at 7 p.m.  Visitation will resume Friday morning from 9:30a to 10:15a at the church in Wall Lake.

In Lieu of flowers memorials may be left for the family to be used for later memorial designations.

Marie Steinkamp was born on February 16, 1941 at Carroll, Iowa to Vincent and Mary (Pudenz) Broich of Mount Carmel, Iowa.  She was baptized and confirmed at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church.  Marie attended Our Lady of Mount Carmel School until its closing in 1958.  She would then attend Kuemper Catholic High School  graduating in 1959.  On February 4, 1961 Marie was united in marriage to Neil Steinkamp at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church by Rev. Otmer Koester.

Marie’s family and friends meant everything to her, and she was a friend to everyone who knew her.  She filled her days being witty and compassionate to everyone she met.  She was active as a Den Mother in the Cub Scouts, assisted in 4-H Leadership, involved as a C.C.D. instructor, was a co-chair of her church quilting group, active member of the St. Joseph’s Ladies Guild while thoroughly enjoying her children school involvement.

Marie and Neil lived on an acreage south of Lake View until 1963 when they moved to Wall Lake where they lived until 2010.  The couple then moved to their remodeled home on Black Hawk Lake in Lake View.  She loved her neighbors and friends and especially playing cards, enjoying the lake scenery and wildlife.  Marie also enjoyed visiting their children, grandchildren and their families, as well as numerous extended winter vacations with Neil and special friends.

Marie is survived by her husband Neil of Lake View; their children: Mary Beth (Dr. Kevin) Darr of Covington, LA, Brian (Martha) Steinkamp of Indianapolis, IN, and Cora Steinkamp of Indianapolis, IN; grandchildren: Johnny (Jessica) Thompson, Sarah (Colin) Mender, Dr. David (Dr. Elizabeth Fogey) Thompson, Patrick Thompson, Joe Steinkamp, Ted Steinkamp, Pete Steinkamp, Jack Steinkamp, and Alaina Steinkamp-Bartus; one great-grandchild, James Noor Mender; three step-grandchildren: Elise Darr, Diana Darr, and Cameron Darr.

Also surviving Marie, her sister: Lota (Claire) Hannasch of Tracy, MN; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Virginia Broich of Lake View, Leon (Dorothy) Steinkamp of Grand Meadow, MN, Luvern Steinkamp of Adams, MN, Everett Dean Steinkamp of Lee’s Summit, MO, Orlin (Myra) Steinkamp of Wall Lake, Mildred Steinkamp of Wall Lake, Vivian Steinkamp of Altoona, Renee Steinkamp of Carroll, and Micki Steinkamp of Spirit Lake, as well as many nieces, nephews and other extended relatives.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Virgil (Ida) Broich, Paul (Marguerite) Broich, Melvin Broich, Harold (Katheryn) Broich; sister: Bernice (Doyle) Koster; her parents-in-law: Lawrence and Estella (Reising) Steinkamp; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Ambrose Steinkamp, Dennis Steinkamp, Mark Steinkamp, Timothy Steinkamp, Alice Steinkamp, Mary Steinkamp and Linda (Joseph) Klein.
