Mary Ann Haberl of Carroll

Mary Ann Haberl, 84 of Carroll, died Monday, June 26, 2023 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa from injuries received in an automobile accident near Scranton.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 22, 2023 at Holy Spirit Church – St. John Paul II Parish in Carroll.   The Celebrant will be Fr. Patrick Behm.  Music will be by Jane Heithoff.  Gift Bearers will be Mary Ann’s grandchildren.  Eucharistic Minister will be Annette Haberl.  Casket Bearers will be Mary Ann’s grandchildren.   Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.

Visitation will be held at the church prior to the Funeral Mass from 12-1:45 p.m.

Mary Ann was born on July 22, 1938 at her family farm in Willey, the daughter of John and Mayme (Langel) Bauer.  She attended St. Augustine School in Halbur.  On May 14, 1957, Mary Ann was united in marriage to Donald Haberl at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Halbur with Msgr. Lawrence Greteman officiating.   The couple made their home on an acreage north of Carroll, later moving to Maple River.   Mary Ann raised their family and worked at General Electric for 25 years.

Mary Ann enjoyed playing cards, bingo, casino trips, quilting and baking.  She was a devoted homemaker and loved gardening and baking.

Mary Ann is survived by her husband Donald Haberl; her sons: Robert (Lorraine) Haberl of Rockwell City, Douglas (Joyce) Haberl of Carroll, Thomas Haberl of Breda, and Scott Haberl of Moville; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren;   her daughters-in-law, Lynn (Tom)  Berger of Auburn, and Dani (Glen) Mueggenberg of Breda; her son-in-law, Rodney (Cindy) Rattenborg of Scranton; her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Marilyn Bauer, Darlene (Leo) Willenborg, Norma Jean Anthofer, Rita Ann (Arthur) Bruch, Bernie Haberl, Erwin (Mary Jane) Haberl, LeRoy (Carol)  Haberl, and Ed (Annette) Haberl; as well as many nieces, nephews, other extended relatives and many friends.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Vicki Rattenborg; her sons: Stan Haberl and Randy Haberl; her daughter-in-law, Kris Haberl; her infant grandson, Matthew Haberl; her parents-in-law, Bernard and Genevieve Haberl; and her brothers: Ervin, Edmund, Alvin, Leroy, and John Bauer.
