A Carroll man faces multiple charges for the alleged theft of Iowa Lottery tickets from his employer. Carroll County District Court records show 39-year-old Shelby Joseph Norman was taken into custody on July 14 by the Carroll Police Department after an investigation found he had stolen tickets from Sparky’s One Stop in the 400 block of U.S. Highway 30 between June 1 and July 1, depriving the store of more than $700. Additionally, authorities say Norman had taken various other products and pocketed cash for customers’ items that were not rung into the register during this time, bringing the total loss to over $1,000. He faces one count of lottery theft, a class D felony, and third-degree theft, an aggravated misdemeanor. Norman was released from custody after appearing before a magistrate and is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing on July 27. The charges carry a combined maximum penalty of up to seven years in prison and $13,750 in fines.
