Carroll City Council Postpones Next Week’s Meeting To Tuesday For RAGBRAI

The Carroll City Council has rescheduled next week’s meeting for later in the week on account of the festivities planned for RAGBRAI. City Manager Aaron Kooiker says staff will be bustling on Monday, and it made sense to postpone the council proceedings to Tuesday.

The Tuesday, July 25 meeting opens at 5:15 p.m. at Carroll City Hall. The consent agenda includes beer and liquor license renewals and a report from the bid opening for wall repairs at the Carroll slow pitch softball complex. Kooiker says there are only a few items for council action, beginning with the return of a home construction agreement with Region XII Council of Governments.

The proposed agreement has the city providing up to $300,000 to Region XII to construct 10 new homes within Carroll over the next several years. This is the latest in a long series of efforts by city officials to address the identified housing shortage in the community. While the agreement may be approved Tuesday, construction on the first homes will likely not begin until Fiscal Year (FY) 2025. The council will also take the next step to move forward with a $2.9 million storm sewer improvement in southwestern Carroll by signing a $191,500 professional services agreement with JEO Consulting Group to oversee the project. Kooiker says they’ll also be closing out the books on FY23 with end-of-year transfer resolutions.

The last item of business will be another vicious animal designation appeal hearing, the third so far just this summer. Tuesday’s meeting is open to the public and will also be live-streamed via the city’s YouTube channel. Links to the video and full agenda are included below.
