Dupaco Community Credit Union is marking its 75th anniversary this week. Dupaco was founded on July 17, 1948, by the Dubuque Packing Company employees to promote thrift, provide access to affordable credit, and empower its members to control their finances democratically. Starting modestly out of a cigar box within the employer group’s office, Dupaco expanded its operations in 1958 when it became the first credit union in Iowa to construct its own building in Dubuque. Over the years, Dupaco extended its field of membership to include residents and workers in Dubuque, Jackson, and Delaware Counties. Today, Dupaco proudly serves over 158,000 members across all 50 states, the District of Columbia, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and 28 other countries. Joe Hearn, President/CEO of Dupaco, says, “Dupaco is more than local; it’s a financial cooperative, owned by its community of members. As we celebrate this milestone, I’m proud of Dupaco’s legacy and the positive impact the credit union has had with our members and the communities we serve. Team Dupaco has never lost sight of how we’ve got here; we’ll continue to serve our members with heart and smart. I’m excited to see what the next 75 years, and beyond, brings!” Dupaco’s exceptional performance has earned it recognition, including a 5-Star Superior rating from Bauer Financial and listings as Forbes’ Best-in-State Credit Union, an S&P Global Market Intelligence Top 100 Credit Union, and a Des Moines Register Top Workplace.
