The DMACC Career Advantage program has achieved a remarkable milestone during the 2022-23 academic year, with a record-breaking 552 high school students earning a DMACC degree, certificate, or diploma credential. This marks a significant 38-percent increase from the previous year’s total of 401 students obtaining credentials through the program. Statewide, there has been a growing trend in joint enrollment programs, with approximately one-third of high school students taking at least one course at a local community college last year. The joint enrollment courses offered by DMACC not only enable students to save money but also equip them with valuable college credits and experience before they officially start their post-secondary education journey. The DMACC Career Advantage program serves over 17,000 high school students annually in Central and West Central Iowa districts. Participating school districts receive state funding for students taking community college courses, allowing them to cover the expenses and provide students with the chance to earn college credits at no cost while in high school. DMACC President Rob Denson says, “DMACC is proud to work closely with a growing number of school districts to help communicate the advantages of earning an associate degree and to help their students learn about a variety of career pathways.” The program’s success reflects the increasing demand for affordable and accessible college education among high school students, making a positive impact on their lives and future careers.
