An eight-year-old Glidden child was hospitalized this (Saturday) afternoon after being struck by a pickup truck. According to the Iowa State Patrol, the accident occurred at approximately 1:32 p.m. on Colorado Street in Glidden, just south of the intersection with 6th Street. The initial investigation determined the child was riding a bicycle and traveled onto the street into the path of a southbound 2023 Chevrolet Silverado, operated by 63-year-old Thomas Lee Fransen, a deputy with the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office. The child was airlifted to Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines with serious injuries. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office and Carroll County Emergency Medical Services assisted the Iowa State Patrol at the scene.
