Authorities say a six-year-old child was killed this (Saturday) morning in a backing accident near Springbrook State Park in Guthrie County. According to the Iowa State Patrol, the accident occurred at approximately 9:38 a.m. in the 2400 block of 170th Street. A 2002 Chevrolet Suburban, operated by 45-year-old Shane Ellis of Guthrie Center, was backing out of a residential drive when the six-year-old male child entered the vehicle’s blind spot on the rear passenger side. The child was struck by the passenger rear tire. Life-saving measures Ellis and emergency medical personnel performed were unsuccessful, and the child was pronounced dead at the scene. The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office and Guthrie County Emergency Medical Services also assisted the Iowa State Patrol. Carroll Broadcasting is awaiting official reports from the Iowa State Patrol on a Saturday afternoon accident in Carroll County that also involved a child.
