IKM-Manning School Board Will Send $18.6 Million Facility Improvement Plan To Voters Nov. 7

The IKM-Manning Board of Education has identified a path forward for enhancing its educational infrastructure through a proposed $18.6 million facility improvement project. In a special board meeting last night (Monday), the school board evaluated multiple options for potential expansions in collaboration with Sam Stagg of 10Fold Architecture. These options included an addition to the Irwin building and two variations of additions to the Manning location. The discussions also covered renovations and maintenance for the existing facilities, considering long-term feasibility and benefits for students’ future. After deliberation, the board decided to proceed with an expansion plan that includes adding 15 classrooms, three smaller rooms, library updates, improvements to the existing FCS classroom, a secured entrance, and repurposing the current administrative offices in the Manning building. The projected cost for this endeavor is around $18.6 million. Board President Luke Potthoff says, “It’s never an easy decision, but we look forward to being able to strengthen our school district. We feel this bond will create the safest and most effective learning environments for all the students and staff. We know this bond does not fix every problem, but it is a huge step in the right direction. We hope the constituents of the district can support our decision.” School officials are aiming to put the bond referendum on the Nov. 7 city/school elections coming up this fall. The board must collect 271 signatures from district members in support of the proposed expansion and improvements to get the issue on the ballot.
