Manilla Woman Avoids Serious Injuries In Car/Semi Crash Near Aspinwall Sunday

A Manilla woman was fortunate to escape serious injury after her vehicle was hit broadside by a semi-tractor trailer over the weekend. According to the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred at approximately 10:18 a.m. on Sunday near the intersection of Iowa Highway 141 and 380th Street, south of Aspinwall. Authorities say 68-year-old Nancy Ann Simonsen of Manilla was traveling eastbound in a 2008 Chevrolet Impala and attempted a lefthand turn onto 380th. Simonsen did not see the westbound 2021 Peterbilt, operated by 46-year-old Jonathan David Kent of Corydon, and crossed the semi’s path. The Kent semi collided with the front passenger side of the Simonsen vehicle, with both vehicles coming to rest in the westbound lane of traffic. Simonsen was transported to Manning Regional Healthcare Center (MRHC) by Carroll County Emergency Medical Services with suspected minor injuries. Kent was uninjured in the crash. Damage to the Impala is estimated at $8,500, while damage to the Peterbilt is estimated at $20,000.
