Jefferson Woman Charged With OWI After Colliding With School Bus Thursday Afternoon

A Jefferson woman was arrested yesterday (Thursday) afternoon for operating while intoxicated after colliding with a school bus. At approximately 4:41 p.m., officers with the Jefferson Police Department were dispatched to the scene at the intersection of Lincoln Way and Locust Street. Authorities say a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee, operated by 46-year-old Sarah Dawn Schwery of Jefferson, was traveling southbound on Locust and failed to stop at the posted stop sign. While traveling through the intersection, Schwery collided with an eastbound Greene County Community School District bus, driven by Mavis Sawhill of Jefferson. Both drivers were transported by Greene County Emergency Medical Services to the Greene County Medical Center for treatment of possible injuries. No students were on the bus at the time of the accident. Further investigation led to Schwery’s arrest on charges of first-offense OWI, a serious misdemeanor, and open container by a driver, a simple misdemeanor.
