IA Dept. Of Ag. Invites Fuel Retailers To Take Advantage Of State-Backed Fuel Infrastructure Program

Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig is urging fuel retailers in the state to apply for cost-share grants through the Iowa Renewable Fuels Infrastructure Program (RFIP). These grants aim to facilitate fueling system upgrades, enhancing consumer access to higher blends of more affordable biofuels. The RFIP incentivizes installing, replacing, and converting infrastructure for dispensing and storing ethanol and biodiesel, focusing on Iowa-grown biofuels. Furthermore, it provides incentives for upgrading biodiesel terminals and storage facilities. During the 2023 legislative session, the state allocated $15 million for the program, up from $10 million the previous year. This funding boost follows Iowa’s move in 2022 to establish an E15 access standard, making the state the first in the nation to do so. Naig says, “As Iowans continue to face expensive fuel costs and unacceptably hot inflation, consumers benefit from greater access to higher blends of lower-cost biofuels. Given the historic investment made by Gov. Reynolds and the Legislature in this grant program, there has never been a better time for fuel retailers to utilize this cost-share funding to upgrade their fueling infrastructure and help Iowans save money at the pump.” The grant application deadline for the next round of RFIP grants is Monday, Sept. 25, with the board set to review applications during its quarterly meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 11.
