The Carroll Chamber of Commerce is nearing the end of its summer programming tomorrow (Thursday) evening with the final Live+Local concert of the 2023 season. Program Director Ashley Schable says the last few months have been hectic for the Chamber staff, and this Live+Local is another step closer to the end of one of the busiest summers in Carroll in recent memory.

Since its first year in the summer of 2021, Live+Local has grown to draw crowds nearing 1,000 people. Thursday night’s performers are 2½ Guitars, and they take the stage from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Adams Street in downtown Carroll. The group is filling in for Scott Kirkhart, who has not recovered enough from a summer motor vehicle accident to play. Attendees should bring their lawn chairs and beverages, but remember, glass containers and hard liquors are prohibited. Organizers are nearly done wrapping up RAGBRAI, following Carroll’s overnight stop on the 50th-anniversary route in July. According to Chamber Executive Director Kimberly Tiefenthaler, they met with RAGBRAI Central near the end of August to put a bow on the event. She says they’ve managed to cover all the many expenses associated with the ride and should have some funds left to distribute to local organizations.

In addition to RAGBRAI, Tiefenthaler adds Carroll was able to host another great 1A and 2A state baseball tournament at Merchants Park, and they are optimistic that Carroll can continue to host for years to come. The last significant event of the summer is Carroll Band Day. That’s scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 30, beginning at 10:30 a.m. Carroll Broadcasting will bring you more on the 66th annual parade and contest in upcoming newscasts. You can hear the full interview with Chamber staff included with this story on our website or the Carroll Broadcasting mobile app.
