Abby Olberding of Nebraska, formerly of Carroll

Abby Rebecca Olberding, age 24, of Omaha, NE, and formerly of Carroll, IA, passed away on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 due to injuries suffered in an auto accident in Omaha, NE.

     Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, September 22, 2023 at St. John Paul II Parish – Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll with Fr. Brian Feller as Celebrant.  Lector for the Mass will be Janel Hartwigsen.  Gift bearers will be Machaela Jacobs, Ava Goldsberry, and Alayna Goldsberry.  Music for the Mass will be by Kathy Halbur and Kathleen Macke.  Casket bearers will be Todd Puck, Dan Hartwigsen, Jason Goldsberry, Jack Olberding, Bryce Puck, and Adam Hartwigsen.  Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.

    Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll from 5 – 7 P.M. on Thursday.  The casket will be moved to Holy Spirit Church at 9:30 A.M. on Friday where visitation will resume until 10:15 A.M. prior to the Mass.

    Abby was born on September 28, 1998 in Omaha, NE, and she was the daughter of Jered and Brenda (Puck) Olberding.  She grew up in Carroll and graduated from Carroll High School in 2017 where she participated in track, cross country, band and softball.  Her love of fitness led her to Buena Vista in Storm Lake graduating in 2020 with a degree in Human Performance.  Abby ran track while attending BV.  After graduation she attended Clarkson College in Omaha graduating in 2023 with a degree in Physical Therapy.  She thrived at her job doing what she loved at Makovicka Physical Therapy.  Abby lived life to the fullest.  She loved to travel taking memorable trips to Chicago, Minneapolis, Delaware, New York, South Dakota, Maryland, England, Scotland, Florida, Tennessee, Ireland, and Nevada.  Abby’s bubbly personality led her to many friendships and a family that adored her.  Family and friends describe her as a sweet soul and a ray of sunshine – which is 100% Abby.

     Abby will be missed by her parents Jered and Brenda Olberding of Carroll; her partner in crime – twin brother Blake Olberding of Carroll; grandparents: John Olberding of Carroll, Garry Puck (Ann) of Liberty, MO; uncle Todd Puck (Julie) of Bennington, NE; aunt Janel Hartwigsen (Dan) of Ankeny, IA; aunt Sara Goldsberry (Jason) of Pleasant Hill, IA; uncle Jack Olberding (Melissa) of Carroll, IA; and cousins: Bryce Puck (Abby), Machaela Jacobs (Isaac), Colby and Liam Puck, Adam and Noah Hartwigsen, Ava, Alayna and Andrew Goldsberry, Ryan Rustvold, and Camdyn and Caylee Olberding.  Abby is also survived by her boyfriend Troy Finnegan of Waterloo, many extended family members and friends, and her “Pride and Joy” – dog Ollie.

    Abby was preceded in death by grandmothers: Becky Puck and JoAnn Olberding; her great-grandparents; and her first pet Oreo.

     Life is what you make of it. And you made it beautiful!  Our hearts will forever ache.  Abby was taken too soon from our lives.  Your footsteps can never be filled nor your love ever forgotten.  Give Grandma Jo and Grandma Becky hugs!
