Local kids between the ages of two and nine are putting their driving skills to the test tomorrow (Saturday) for the Glidden Power Wheels Nationals in City Park. Parks and Recreation Director Mike Schulze says many people have fond memories of the popular electric children’s toy, but it will be a very different experience on Saturday.

There are two classes. The “Stock” class keeps the vehicles in the same configuration as from out of the box, and the “Outlaw” class ups the ante with bigger batteries and tire modifications. Schulze says there is a noticeable speed increase when you start adding more voltage.

Kids can join the Glidden Power Wheels Nationals for free, and Schulze says they’ll have a few stock Power Wheels available for participants who might not have one of their own. Registration is required either by 5 p.m. Friday at Glidden City Hall or Saturday morning in the park. Vehicle checks open at 9 a.m., followed by hot laps at 10 a.m. Official racing begins at 11 a.m.
