Convicted Carroll Sex Offender Voluntarily Withdraws Postconviction Relief Request

A postconviction relief request from a Carroll man convicted in 2014 of child sexual abuse has been dismissed. Forty-five-year-old Steve Thomas Schneider was found guilty by a jury of his peers on six counts of third-degree sexual abuse, a class C felony. He was convicted of sexually abusing a juvenile niece from November 2006 to September 2009. Schneider has appealed the conviction multiple times, all unsuccessful, and this latest one was withdrawn voluntarily by the appellant. The case will be returned to the District Court for Carroll County and proceed as if the appeal had never been filed, leaving Schneider an opportunity to pursue future requests. Schneider is currently serving a 40-year sentence at the Fort Dodge Correctional Facility, and his recall date is scheduled for June 9, 2024.
