Unemployment rates for the seven-county region slipped by 0.2 percentage points on average in August, according to data released earlier this week by Iowa Workforce Development. Audubon, Carroll, and Greene Counties led the way for the area, each with a 2.6 percent unemployment rate. Audubon’s rate remains 0.4 points over July’s figures and 0.1 points over August 2022. Carroll’s rate is 0.3 points over July’s and last year’s figures. Greene County was only one of two counties to see improvements from July to August, moving 0.2 points from 2.8 percent in July to 2.6 percent in August. Sac County slipped 0.4 points from July to August at 2.7 percent and remained 0.1 points over last year. Unemployment in Guthrie County also rose 0.2 points from July to August to 3.0 percent. Calhoun County stood at 3.2 percent, a 0.2-point increase from the prior month and a half-point over August 2022. Crawford County again recorded the highest unemployment rate in the region at 4.3 percent, 0.2 points lower than in July but 0.7 points higher than a year ago.
