Rep. Best Named Co-Chair Of New Interim Committee On Iowa’s Driver’s License Policy

District 11 Representative Brian Best of Glidden has been appointed co-chair of the newly formed interim study committee tasked with examining policies related to minor driver’s licenses. Created during the 2023 Legislative session, this committee is assigned the important task of evaluating all existing policy matters concerning minors aged 14-18 obtaining and using driver’s licenses. As chair of the Transportation Committee in the Iowa House, Best brings significant knowledge and experience to this new role. Best says, “This issue has been talked about at length in the Iowa Legislature. In Iowa code, we have so many different rules and regulations regarding when minors can get a driver’s license and how they can be used. There have been many ideas on how to make Iowa code work better for young Iowans and families, but effective change cannot be made until we take a holistic view of this topic. I’m eager to dig into the details of these policies so that we can return next session with a clear vision for how to make Iowa code work better for Iowans.” The committee is mandated to deliver a report with policy recommendations to the Governor and the general assembly by Dec. 15. In addition to his role as Transportation Committee chair, Best also serves on the Human Resources, Commerce, Labor and Workforce, and Ways and Means Committees, and the Rebuild Iowa Infrastructure Fund (RIIF) Budget subcommittee.
