Lake City Good Samaritan Resolution to be Presented October 2

Sometimes a homeowner can’t keep their property up and a form letter is mailed out from City Hall that may say “your grass is over 8 inches or your shed should be repaired or demolished.”  Lake City Administrator Jacob Matthews knows that is the City’s duty but that policy didn’t always sit right with him. Sometimes people are in need of help.

Matthews plans to introduce the Lake City Good Samaritan program at the City Council Board meeting. It’s a resolution to support compassionate municipal code enforcement and it will be put before the Lake City Council on Monday, October 2.

Matthews believes Lake City non-profits and charitable organizations will answer the call. He’s building the entire Resolution on that belief.

There’s good reason for Matthew’s faith. Many charities have helped before.

If the resolution passes, violation letters will be crystal clear that help is available.

Once a needy resident is identified, they likely will remain so. Matthews believes that would trigger an even more vigorous response by the charity.

The Good Samaritan Resolution will be introduced Monday Oct. 2 at the Lake City Council Meeting.
