A Jefferson man faces multiple charges for allegedly resisting arrest during a traffic stop on Friday evening. At approximately 10:20 p.m., Jefferson Police Department officers conducted a traffic stop in the 1400 block of N. Elm Street. During the stop, the officer suspected the driver, identified as 27-year-old Devin Christopher Hackfort of Jefferson, to be under the influence of an intoxicant. The situation escalated when Hackfort was asked to exit the vehicle. Hackfort displayed aggressive behavior toward law enforcement and proceeded to spit in the face of one of them multiple times. A physical altercation ensued, involving a ground struggle. Despite the subject’s resistance, the officers eventually managed to gain control of Hackfort and handcuffed him. Hackfort faces several charges, including interference with official acts causing bodily injury and assault on persons in certain occupations causing bodily injury, both aggravated misdemeanors. The officers sustained minor injuries during the struggle and are now undergoing infectious disease follow-up protocols as a precautionary measure.
