DNR Releases First Fall Color Report Of 2023 Season

Fall-Leaves-3

A sure sign that autumn is here is when leaves begin to change their colors, and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) released its first fall color report of the 2023 season. According to the DNR, northeast Iowa is already seeing some changes, most likely due to the severe drought that area of the state is experiencing. It is a similar story for north-central and northwestern parts of Iowa, with peak viewing for these regions expected to begin Oct. 5. Central, west-central, and southwest Iowa aren’t much further behind as fall colors are already appearing, but DNR staff say they won’t peak until around Oct. 8 through Oct. 14. Southeast Iowa is expected to be the final region to peak, estimated around Oct. 20. The DNR releases a fall color report each week during the season, and a link to where that can be found is included below.
