Iowa Fuel Report: Sept. 27, 2023

According to the Iowa Department of Agriculture and AAA-Iowa, Iowans felt some relief at the pump as fuel prices trended lower over the past week. As of Wednesday, Sept. 27, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was $3.67, down 15 cents on the week but four cents higher than a year ago. The national average on Wednesday was down five cents on the week to $3.83 per gallon. Retail diesel in Iowa slipped two cents to $4.31 per gallon, compared to $4.71 per gallon last year. The national average for diesel on Wednesday was $4.57. However, Brent Crude Oil also jumped to nearly $95 per barrel on Wednesday, an 11-month high, potentially signaling higher fuel prices ahead. Wholesale ethanol was unchanged from $2.16 per gallon. In heating fuels, propane prices averaged $1.50 per gallon, home heating oil prices at $3.86 per gallon, and natural gas prices at the Henry Hub reporting site were up 18 cents to $2.93 per MMBtu.
