William Blohm was born June 20, 1931 in Dexter, Iowa. He was the son of William and Georgia (Denham) Blohm. He attended school in Dexter, playing both football and basketball, and was class valedictorian. During high school, Bill met his future wife, Joan Blomquist. They were married on September 16, 1951 at the Methodist Church in Stuart, Iowa.

William attended school at Northwest Missouri State for two years before enlisting in the United States Airforce, where he was stationed in Wilmington, Delaware. Following his honorary discharge, he moved with his family to Ames, Iowa to attend ISU veterinary school. Upon graduation, he had a private practice in Carroll, IA until merging with the Carroll Veterinary Clinic. He enjoyed working with large animals, especially cattle, but being the gentle doctor he was, cared for all animals large and small. He made many lifelong friends while practicing, and always enjoyed seeing them. William retired from practice in 2000 – as he always told people when they asked him what he did, he tells them he was and still is a veterinarian.

William was a member of the Iowa Veterinary Medical Association and was a past president. He spent time on the CCSD school board and was president where he was proudly able to hand his oldest daughter and foreign exchange student living with the family their diplomas. William spent time on the board of the First Federal Bank. He was very generous with his giving and time with projects in the Carroll community and surrounding towns.

William enjoyed traveling with his wife, having traveled several times to Europe. They enjoyed traveling around the United States visiting family and friends. They both acquired a passion for polka and traveled around the Midwest going to dances. One of William’s greatest passions was landscaping – he loved working in his yard and making it a showcase – spent many hours at it. He was known for writing letters to the editor, and enjoyed knowing people looked forward to reading about his opinions, whether they agreed with him or not.

William was a diehard Iowa State fan as well as a Chicago Cub’s fan. One of his most thrilling memories as a cub was catching a foul ball. More than anything he loved spending time with his family.

William is survived by his daughters; Deb Lowry (Mark) of Castro Valley, CA, Diane Brower (Doug) of Carroll, IA, Beth McClelland (Mike) of Chattanooga, TN; five grandchildren: Austin Brower (Brittany) of Waukee, IA, Adam Brower of Denver, CO, Jacob McClelland of Des Moines, IA, Hallie McClelland of Tempe, AZ, and Ryan McClelland of Holland, MI; two great-grandchildren, Hendrix Brower and Brixton Brower of Waukee, IA; two sisters, Peggy Wells of Dexter, IA and Thelma Vasquez of Manhatten Beach, CA; and sister-in-law Lucille Grove of Shreveport, LA; several nieces and nephews.

William was preceded in death by his wife Joan Blohm; his parents William and Georgia Blohm; mother and father-in-law Ida and Elmer Blomquist; a sister-in-law, several brothers-in-law, and nephews and a niece.
