Lake City has recently begun enforcing an ordinance requiring vehicles be parked on a paved surface. It can be gravel, it just cannot be grass. City Administrator Jacob Matthews explains the city’s policy on the matter.

Matthews looks at the grand scheme of things. He believes it’s more than just answering a complaint or enforcing a obscure parking ordinance. It boils down to aesthetics.

Safety conscious people can still park out of the way of traffic with their passenger side or driver’s side tires slightly on grass. Matthews says the ordinance is directed at front yards that resemble car dealership lots or worse, junk yards.
