Former Senator Craig Williams of Manning has announced he intends to run for the District 11 Iowa House of Representatives seat. Williams made the announcement late Wednesday, the same day Rep. Brian Best said he did not plan to run for a sixth term in office. Williams has a lengthy history in Iowa politics, including serving on the Republican Party of Iowa’s Central Committee for many years and most recently as the District 6 Senator from January 2021 to January 2023. Williams was poised to cruise to an easy re-election in 2022 after winning almost 70 percent of the vote in the 2020 race, but the state’s redistricting process would have forced him to run against a Republican colleague, Senator Jason Schultz of Schleswig. Williams says, “The Senate was an opportunity to serve the people of the district, but was cut short. I would greatly appreciate another opportunity to serve the people of House District 11.” Williams is still involved in agriculture and works as a consultant outside of politics. He says, “I believe my experience in the Senate will allow me to hit the ground running if elected to the Iowa House. It takes considerable time to learn the who, what, and how of the procedures and process in the Capitol, and thanks to the voters, I have that experience.” District 11 includes all of Carroll and Audubon Counties and portions of Shelby and Pottawattamie Counties. The District 11 election will be held on Nov. 5, 2024.
