Seven candidates have filed to fill the three open Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Education seats on the ballot during the Nov. 7 City/School elections. One of those candidates is Cindy Scaturico of Carroll. Scaturico and her family relocated to the Carroll area two years ago from Virginia. When an opening appeared on the Carroll County Board of Supervisors earlier this year, she ran in and won a special election to fill out the remainder of the term. Scaturico says she is pursuing this second elected position with the school because she wants to see all of Carroll County be its best.
Prior to serving on the Carroll County Board of Supervisors and running for CCSD School Board, Scaturico worked in the commercial food production and safety industry. She says her career experience, combined with her time as a supervisor, translates well to a position on the board.
Scaturico says schools nationwide are still struggling to catch up from the educational losses that occurred during COVID. While that is a concern, she says learning can’t happen if students and staff don’t work in an environment conducive to learning.
In addition to the school board race on Nov. 7, another question posed to voters is the proposed renewal for the instructional support levy (ISL), which will sunset in Fiscal Year (FY) 2025. Scaturico says she does not oppose the ISL but wants a fresh set of eyes to monitor how those funds are being used.
Scaturcio and her husband, Peter, have three children, two grown and one in sixth grade, and four grandchildren. Scaturico is scheduled to appear alongside the six other candidates at the Carroll County Growth Partnership candidate forum on Wednesday, Oct. 18, at 6:30 p.m. at CHS. Those candidates include Jason Schagt, Stacey McCaulley, Casie Forke-Burke, Jim Friel, Jill Johnston, and Sara Woerdehoff.
