The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office reports over 100 dogs, around 50 goats, and various other animals were recovered from a rural Lanesboro home on Friday afternoon. According to Sheriff Ken Pingrey, law enforcement and a Carroll Vet clinic veterinarian responded to 30326 120th Street, a property owned by Kris Jacob, in response to a possible animal neglect case. Upon arrival, officials located the dogs living in three separate buildings, ranging in age from older dogs to newborn puppies. Pingrey described the living conditions as “beyond bad,” as the animals were being neglected and not cared for properly under standard animal husbandry practices. Authorities note this incident was a hoarding case, not a puppy mill scenario. The owner voluntarily surrendered the dogs, which were transported to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa in Des Moines for treatment. The goats, a miniature donkey, several miniature horses, and a cow were also recovered, and authorities are actively working to find a new home for the animals. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources also assisted at the site. An investigation into the matter is ongoing. Photos from the property can be found included below.
