Iowa AG Bird Joins 26 Other States Demanding Fixes To Catch-And-Release Border Policies

Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird has joined a coalition of 27 state Attorneys General to call on the Biden Administration to address the ongoing issue of catch-and-release immigration policies. Bird and her colleagues alleged millions of illegal aliens have been released into the U.S. over the past several years. In August alone, the Border Patrol authorized the release of over 100,000 aliens, with an anticipated increase in numbers for September when reports become available. Bird says, “Every time we turn on the news, we see chaos along our southern border. Drugs are flowing into our communities, women and children are being trafficked, and mass numbers of illegal aliens are being released into our country with court dates more than a decade into the future. Last fiscal year, we encountered more than 150 people at the southern border from the FBI terror watch list. It’s time for urgent action. The Biden Administration must follow the law and secure our southern border.”  The Attorneys General’s letter suggests an amendment to Department of Homeland Security regulations to address these issues and to close the existing legal loophole that enables mass catch-and-release policies. Iowa has aligned with 26 other states in this collaborative effort, with Florida’s Attorney General taking the lead to address the southern border crisis and immigration challenges. Their full letter is included below.
