Gov. Kim Reynolds signed a proclamation yesterday (Wednesday) declaring next week as Blue Ribbon Week in support of Israel during their ongoing conflict with Hamas in the Gaza Strip. The proclamation encourages Iowans to wear blue ribbons from Sunday, Oct. 22 through Saturday, Oct. 29, in recognition of the more than 1,400 Israelis and at least 30 Americans killed during the violence that sparked in the region on Oct. 7. Reynolds says in the proclamation, “The Israeli people have suffered a violent attack, clearly designed to maximize terror and harm to civilians, resulting in the largest mass slaughter of Jews since the Holocaust and is yet another instance of the centuries-long persecution and antisemitism that Jewish people have suffered; and Iowa stands in solidarity with the Israeli people and Jewish communities everywhere and reaffirms its unwavering commitment to Israel’s sovereignty and security.” Additionally, the Iowa State Capitol was illuminated in blue last night (Wednesday) and remains lit in support of Israel through the evening of Sunday, Oct. 22. The proclamation in its entirety is included below.
