Motorists on Highway 30 between Carroll and Glidden may have to utilize detours beginning next week for emergency road repairs. According to County Engineer Zac Andersen, the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) reached out to the county this week after discovering an issue with an under-road pipe near Storm Creek.
Andersen says the work will require that section of road to be closed to thru-traffic, necessitating a detour route if the DOT decides to move forward with the emergency repairs.
The proposed detour would take traffic north on Timber Avenue in Glidden to 160th Street through Lidderdale, and back south along Quail Avenue to Highway 30. Andersen adds the DOT is tentatively planning for the closure to begin on Monday, Nov. 6, and it will likely last between a week and 10 days. Andersen says the DOT will compensate the county for the use of county roads for the detour, and he estimates that will be around $4,000, which will help to repair any extra wear on the surfacing due to the additional use. Again, the Highway 30 closure between Glidden and Carroll is tentatively scheduled to begin Monday, Nov. 6, but DOT staff say that date could change depending on the availability of contractors.
