Carroll House Fire Last Week Serves As Reminder For Children’s Education On Fire Safety

An investigation into a residential house fire in Carroll last Friday has determined the blaze was started by a juvenile playing with a lighter. The Carroll Fire Department was dispatched Friday afternoon to 909 N. Clark St. in response to the call. According to Fire Chief Dan Hannasch, the minor was likely playing with cardboard when the fire grew out of control and spread to other areas of the home. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the Oct. 27 blaze, but Hannasch says it serves as an excellent reminder for parents to speak with their kids about fire safety.

Hannasch says nearly all kids hear from firefighters during presentations at school. Still, it helps to have those messages reinforced regularly at home.
